Microeconomic analysis is also subject to interpretation. These are key considerations that give a more direct forecast of business performance. A noted increase in the cost of living in a particular city could also have a negative impact on sales in that region. Microeconomic analysis could discover a potential gap in the market for your target customer base, such as the potential to target more young professionals or retirees. One of the key considerations is supply and demand. Rather than focusing on the economy in its entirety, this type of analysis focuses on the behavior and performance of specific customer groups, industries, or geographical areas. If macroeconomics relates to top-down factors, then microeconomics is about looking at business from a bottom-up perspective. Entrepreneurs pay close attention to political, economic or social changes, which could result in the discovery of potentially profitable markets around the world.Ĭommon microeconomic factors to consider after an executive MBA program Macroeconomic factors are particularly crucial for multinational companies. An increase in the minimum wage could lead to decreased profits, while decreasing tariffs with external markets could end up boosting some businesses. However, there is certainly merit for graduates of executive MBA courses to consider some of these issues. Opinion is divided over the relevance of macroeconomic factors in an average business setting. These factors are often politically influenced, because they can be dictated by changes to economic policy. This could include a country’s employment rate, Gross Domestic Product (GDP), inflation or banking interest rates. A script inside Katana sampled color and other data to attributes that were passed to Arnold (Imageworks’ version of Arnold), where a shader worked out final brush shape, color and visibility. Imageworks’ proprietary hair tool Fyber formed a new workflow through Katana to Arnold specifically to groom brush strokes onto the character Miguel, who has very specific contours. It was used for very specific and deliberate detailed strokes that could be applied to animated imagery, whereas Stoke System was generally relied upon to distribute tens of thousands of strokes in a scene. The new tool overcame a limitation of the original by being able to blend between layers or rendered layers to represent varying stroke opacity or bleeding colors.Ĭurve System is another Imageworks Nuke tool that allowed artists to create hand-drawn strokes. The first film had something similar–PatchyFindy–which was used to ‘mosaic’ up an image. Once you move that camera it has to still work and can’t look flat, and then you needed the ability to put brushstrokes wherever you wanted, to really make it effective.”Ī brush projection tool Imageworks built for the film was called PatchyBomby, again inside Nuke. “Everything couldn’t just all be going the same direction, so the brushstrokes had to live in 3D space. “We built the tool so that we could physically paint brushes on objects because we quickly learned that we needed to have brushstrokes move along the form for it to look right,” continues Lasker. The brushstrokes were used heavily for Gwen’s Earth-65 world (which actually changes constantly, almost like a mood ring), and Mumbattan, and could be used to represent anything from the beam from a headlight to a cloud of smoke. “We had to build new tools that would allow the artists to fill up these scenes with brush strokes, so one thing we built was this procedural brush stroking system, the Stroke System, and it would allow us to use different kinds of brushes and layer them on objects.” Lasker says this tool, and the other brush tools mentioned below, came about after Imageworks saw the very painterly production art department concept explorations for the different world looks. One of these, the Stroke System, was built inside Nuke and worked as a node-based tool that could render brushes in 3D space. Imageworks made several brush systems for the film. ” Stroke System: controlling brush strokes Some of it also integrated with the Stroke System. We could attach it to lights so when they cast a shadow, the shadow would be filled with line work or markers. With this tool, we could make it sketchy, we could make it clean, we could use it for shadows. This was the first CG animated movie I’ve ever heard of that actually had a dedicated inking team of artists that would go in and run inklines and dial inklines in sequences. “Our effects supervisor Pav Grochola oversaw the building of a new tool called Kismet in Houdini. ![]() ![]() For this new movie, we needed line work everywhere, different styles of lines, clean, architectural, messy, sketchy, painterly, everything.” In Mitchells, we did a lot of line work, but again, it wasn’t overly relied upon. The backgrounds were not heavy on line work. “On the first Spider-Verse,” explains Lasker, “we had created inklines on characters through animation and through FX. The linework, too, had to update as a character moved and be in sync with any changing animation frame rates. Inklines and outlining were things Imageworks dealt with in impressive creative ways on Into the Spider-Verse, but needed to find ways to go even further on this new film, while also retaining a ‘hand-drawn’, sometimes even messy, look and feel. And then with characters like Punk, we pushed even more onto 4s and 6s, making it really choppy and splitting limbs off so they could animate at different rates, and change costumes at different rates.” Kismet for linework But on the FX end is where it got a little tricky. “Generally,” says Lasker, “cloth and hair is typically going to follow what animation has done because it all has to sync up, and we’ve gotten pretty good at that. ![]() But at 8 years old that couldn’t be a viable option in 2016, could it? Let’s find out. But that silly old and iconic Nikon D700 is still around and you can buy a nice second hand one for about 600-800 euros. Switching to full frame is always an expensive move, especially if you don’t have a full collection of full frame lenses and have to invest in both a new body and new lenses. The other problem is that native, autofocus lenses for the full frame Sony’s are quite expensive, which makes switching to Sony an expensive venture. It’s a matter of taste if that suits you. The downside is that the A7 is a mirrorless camera which feels and operates quite different than a DSRL. The only cheaper option is moving to Sony (like I did), and buy a Sony A7 for about 1100 euros. If you want a professional grade body the cheapest new option is the excellent Nikon D810, but that is even more expensive at about 3200 euros. An then you have a camera with a body built to the standards of the Nikon D7200 and a simpler autofocus system with just 39 AF-points. But while it is quite affordable for a full frame camera it will still set you back about 1500 euros. If you are a Nikon shooter you can always buy a new full frame camera like the capable and affordable Nikon D610. If you are interested in that other high-end Nikon camera the Nikon D800 you can read my 2017 perspective on the Nikon D800 here.įull frame still seems to be the holy grail of photography for a lot of prosumer APS-C camera-users. The only newer Nikon that comes close is the quirky Nikon Df, with its high-end Nikon D4 sensor but it also lacks the rugged pro-style body the D700 has. The D800 is a different camera aimed at a different audience and the D750 looks like a reasonable upgrade for the D700-users but can’t quite match the D700’s rugged body. That was probably why Nikon was a little reluctant to introduce a ‘real’ new Nikon D700. That was why a lot of professional and semi-professional photographers chose to buy a D700 instead of the much more expensive D3. The D700 offers a 12 megapixel resolution and an, for that time, incredible ISO range going from ISO200 to ISO6400 native. It shares a lot of internals with the D3, like the sensor and the autofocus system. It was introduced in 2008 as the smaller and more affordable alternative for the professional Nikon D3. The Nikon D700 is still seen as one of the best and most iconic cameras Nikon has introduced in the last decennia. Thinking about other options? Read my 2023 review of the original Sony A7, the Sony A7RIII, Nikon D750or Nikon D800. So if you are considering a D750: I’d say go for it! If you are still in doubt: read my review and see if this camera is for you. If I had 300-400 euros burning a hole in my pocket I’d rather have a former high end brick that will withstand about anything you throw at it than a flimsy feeling mirrorless with a cheap lens. For its time it was one of the best cameras you could buy, and now it is still a very good camera you can buy for the price of a mid-end APS-C mirrorless camera. But unless you are printing all your photo’s in roomsized-wallprints you won’t be dissapointed by the images you get out of this older camera. Yes, newer full frame models have even better image quality and many more megapixels.
